Normal sheep serum is collected from non-immunized ovine donors and processed to provide a species-specific protein matrix for blocking, calibration, and diagnostic applications where sheep-derived secondary antibodies are used.
Equitech-Bio supplies sheep serum in lyophilized format. To store lyophilized material correctly, keep it at the recommended temperature until the expiration date and away from conditions that prevent the growth of protein integrity over time. On reconstitution, add deionized water or sodium chloride solution to the vial, then swirl gently to dissolve. Avoid vortexing, which introduces air and degrades sensitive proteins. Centrifuge reconstituted serum briefly if particulates remain before use.
Working from undiluted liquid stock, prepare small aliquots immediately after reconstitution. Small aliquots prevent repeated freeze-thaw cycling that degrades blocking performance across subsequent uses. For IgG standards and cross-species reference panels, normal sheep serum works alongside bovine IgG, normal mouse IgG, and IgG rabbit for quantification and calibration. It pairs with goat anti-human and human IgG antibody detection systems, where a normal serum blocking step precedes secondary antibody application. Research use only.
