Encephalitis Virus Antibody (CAEV)
is the most important disease in goats worldwide. It causes encephalitis in
kids and arthritis in adults. In countries such as Canada, Norway, Switzerland,
France and USA, seroprevalence of (CAEV) is greater than 65%. The (CAEV) is
an enveloped, single-stranded RNA Lentivirus. There are several genetically
distinct isolates of the virus that differ in virulence. The chief mode of
spread of (CAEV) is through ingestion of virus-infected goat colostrum or milk by
kids. Serologic tests available for diagnosis are the agar gel immunodiffusion
(AGID) and (ELISA). In general the (ELISA) is more sensitive.
